PPP’s Kamal Azfar Dies at 95

Kamal Azfar, a distinguished leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former Governor of Sindh, has died in Karachi at the age of 95 after an extended illness. The confirmation came from Senator Waqar Mehdi.

Senator Mehdi stated that details regarding the time and location of the funeral prayers will be shared subsequently. The arrangements are pending the arrival of his children from abroad.

In 1995, Azfar resigned from his position as senator to assume the role of Sindh Governor, a position to which he was appointed by then-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He maintained a close relationship with PPP’s founder, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah conveyed his deep sorrow regarding Azfar’s passing, acknowledging his enduring contributions to politics.

The Sindh CM extended heartfelt condolences to the family and expressed his hopes for the departed’s peace in heaven.

PPP Senator Sherry Rehman shared her condolences on X, formerly known as Twitter, stating, “Grieved to see Barrister Kamaluddin Azfar pass away.”

She further noted Azfar’s extensive service in numerous capacities, notably as Sindh Governor, highlighting his prominence as an activist and Karachi-based politician who collaborated closely with Benazir Bhutto on initiatives such as local government policies.
