Veteran PPP Leader Kamal Azfar Passes Away

Kamal Azfar, a seasoned leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and former Governor of Sindh, has died in Karachi at the age of 87. Senator Waqar Mehdi verified that his passing followed an extended period of illness.

Senator Mehdi stated that details regarding the time and location of the funeral prayers will be shared subsequently. The funeral arrangements are expected to be finalized upon the arrival of Azfar’s children from overseas.

In 1995, Azfar left his position as a senator after being appointed as the Governor of Sindh by then-Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He maintained a close relationship with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of the PPP.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah conveyed his deep sadness and grief regarding Azfar’s death, noting that his contributions to politics would be remembered forever.

The Sindh CM extended his sincere condolences to the grieving family and offered prayers for the departed soul to be granted a high place in heaven.

PPP Senator Sherry Rehman expressed her sorrow on X, stating, “Saddened by the news of Barrister Kamaluddin Azfar’s passing.”

She also noted Azfar held various important positions, including Governor of Sindh, and was a distinguished activist and politician from Karachi. He collaborated closely with Benazir Bhutto on numerous initiatives, notably in the area of local government policies.
