Chinese Mountaineer Dies on K2 After Rockfall

Guan Jing, a mountaineer from China, tragically passed away on Tuesday night after being struck by falling rocks. She was descending from the summit of K2, the world’s second highest mountain.

The accident took place along the Abruzzi Spur route, specifically between Camp I and Advanced Base Camp. This section is well-known for its frequent rockfalls. Guan, along with a team of climbers, had successfully reached the summit on Monday and was on her way back down.

Efforts to recover her body are currently underway. Other climbers who had also reached K2’s summit on Monday are safely making their way back to base camp. In total, over 30 mountaineers reached the peak of K2 on that day.

In the prior month, a Pakistani climber lost his life due to an avalanche that occurred near Camp 1 on K2.

According to reports, the avalanche impacted a total of four climbers. Fortunately, two climbers were able to return to base camp unharmed, while a foreign climber sustained minor injuries. Sadly, Iftikhar Hussain Sadpara, a climber from Skardu, perished in the avalanche. His body was recovered and transported back to base camp shortly after the incident.
