Junaid Safdar to be Engaged in Lahore

Junaid Safdar, the son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is preparing to get engaged in Lahore. His future spouse is the granddaughter of a first cousin of PML-N President Nawaz Sharif.

Sources within the family have confirmed that Junaid’s upcoming marriage is to the daughter of Usman Javed, 48, son of Mian Tariq Shafi. Mian Tariq Shafi is the sibling of Javed Shafi, a trusted confidant, first cousin of Nawaz Sharif, and a prominent figure in the Ittefaq Group Industries.

According to sources, the families, including Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Tariq Shafi, convened at Nawaz Sharif’s Model Town residence on Wednesday to complete the arrangements.

“The proposal has been accepted, and the engagement will occur shortly. The families will agree upon the dates for both the Nikah and engagement ceremonies,” a source stated.

This marks the second marriage for Junaid Safdar. He was previously married to Ayesha Saif, the daughter of Saifur Rehman Khan, a businessman based in Qatar. Their wedding took place in 2021 at The Lanesborough in Knightsbridge, London, while Nawaz Sharif was in exile. They divorced amicably in October 2023.

Junaid came back to Pakistan from London in October to support his mother with her political duties.

A graduate of Cambridge, Junaid possesses two bachelor’s degrees and two master’s degrees from esteemed UK institutions. He earned a master’s degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2020, and another in Global Governance and Ethics from University College London (UCL).

He previously obtained a first-class honors degree in Politics from Durham University and later graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2022.

Junaid is also an avid polo player and has secured victories in several competitions while representing British universities.
