Joshua Still Anticipates Fury Fight Despite Retirement Claims

Anthony Joshua, a two-time heavyweight champion, has addressed Tyson Fury’s recent statements about retirement, expressing his continued belief that their highly anticipated fight will eventually occur.

Joshua, who recently confirmed his return to the ring this December, last competed against Daniel Dubois in September 2024 at Wembley Stadium, a bout in which he sustained injuries.

Speculation about a Joshua-Fury match has circulated for a considerable time. Following Fury’s two defeats to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, prospects for the fight seemed promising for 2025.

However, Fury’s social media declaration of being happily retired has significantly diminished the likelihood of the contest.

Fury responded to rumors of a potential comeback via social media, stating his contentment with retirement and lack of motivation for a return. The Gypsy King questioned the purpose of returning, citing his collection of 22 boxing belts.

“I hear a lot of talk of the Gypsy King returning to boxing, and I ask the question of this one. For what? What would I return for? More boxing belts? Won 22 of them.

“I’ve been rumped. That’s it, fair play to them. They’ve had their use of me, but I’m happy. I’m happy, contented with what I’ve done, what I’ve achieved, what I’ve accomplished, been around the world and back again, and here we are.”

In response, Joshua posted an image of himself watching Fury in a ring on his social media story, adding a caption expressing his conviction that the fight will materialize.

“One of these days it’ll be me standing in the opposite corner, ready and fully charged spiritually,” Joshua stated.
