Henderson Joins Brentford After Ajax Exit
Former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has officially inked a two-year contract with Brentford, a Premier League team, following his departure from AFC Ajax in the Netherlands, as announced on Tuesday.
Ajax has verified that Henderson’s contract will be terminated effective Thursday. The initial agreement was slated to continue until June of the following year.
The experienced midfielder is anticipated to reinforce Brentford’s midfield options, especially after Christian Norgaard, the team’s former captain, transitioned to Arsenal.
In a released statement, Henderson conveyed his enthusiasm about joining Brentford, stating that it was a straightforward decision. He pledged to leverage his experience to benefit the squad’s younger members while also focusing on his performance and continued development.
Henderson stated, “I’m delighted to be here and eager to get started… it was evident to me that this was the right move, making the final decision easy.”
“I’ll dedicate myself to sharing my knowledge, especially with the emerging talents. Simultaneously, I recognize the importance of maintaining a high level of performance and fulfilling my role on the field.”
“While supporting my teammates is a priority, I believe that continuous learning and improvement are essential, irrespective of age, and I am committed to pursuing that here.”
Henderson’s return to the Premier League marks his comeback after a two-year period, having left Liverpool in 2023 to play for Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, a stay that lasted only six months.
During his time with Ajax, he made 57 appearances, scoring a single goal.
Notably, in March, he received a surprising call-up to the England squad by the new manager, Thomas Tuchel, following his exclusion from Euro 2024 due to a disagreement.
