Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall Await UFC Decision for Potential Fight

UFC heavyweight titleholder Jon Jones has stated that both he and Tom Aspinall are awaiting the organization’s decision regarding their prospective match.

The anticipated contest between Aspinall and Jones has been a topic of discussion for a while. UFC’s chief executive officer, Dana White, verified its likelihood, suggesting it would take place this year.

Jones, who secured the vacant heavyweight title by defeating Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 in March 2023, has defended the title once against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November 2024.

Aspinall claimed the interim title by defeating Sergei Pavlovich, while Jones was sidelined due to injury, and then defended it successfully in July 2024.

Jones is currently in Thailand filming a reality TV program reminiscent of The Ultimate Fighter. During a recent seminar, when questioned about the fight date with Aspinall, Jones responded, stating that he and Tom have agreed to await the UFC’s decision.

Jones Addresses the Delay

“Tom and I agreed to wait for the UFC, the UFC, I and Tom, we all got a lot of stuff happening behind the scenes,” Jones remarked at his seminar.

“They’re one of the biggest organizations in sports and right now Tom and I have agreed to wait for the UFC to make their announcements. So I legally can’t really talk about it,” he further explained.

Since his title win, Jones’ inactivity has led to fan frustration and questions about whether he will face Aspinall prior to considering retirement or exploring other avenues.
