John Mulaney Shares Hilarious Story About Son’s School Concert

John Mulaney recently shared a funny story concerning his three-year-old son, Malcolm Hiệp.

During a recent episode of Everybody’s Live With John Mulaney, he openly discussed attending his son’s school performance.

Relating the moment when his son was slated to perform the 1980s hit “We Got the Beat” by The Go-Go’s, the voice actor from The Puss In The Boot recounted that his son became anxious just before the show commenced.

“I surveyed the entire concert, looked at the children, and then I knelt down to my son and reassured him, ‘This is unimportant. Nothing is of consequence. So, should you prefer to sit on my lap and simply watch, that would be alright.’ To which he responded, ‘Yes, I want that,’” he said.

At that point, Hiệp’s instructor attempted to persuade him to participate, noting the audience’s eagerness to hear him.

Describing his son’s comical response, the host continued, “Oh, Ms. Inez, with all due respect, you are unaware of the extent to which one can underwhelm an audience yet still recover in show business.”

Concluding his anecdote, the 42-year-old comedian remarked that each child behaves like the ‘lead in their own production,’ making collective performances challenging.

John Mulaney and Olivia Munn got married in 2024, and have two children, a son, and a daughter named Méi June Mulaney.
