Root Achieves Milestone with 6,000 WTC Runs

England’s experienced batsman, Joe Root, achieved a historic feat on Sunday by becoming the first player ever to accumulate 6,000 runs in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC).

The 34-year-old reached this significant milestone during the ongoing five-Test series against India, further solidifying his remarkable career achievements.

Featuring in his 69th WTC Test, Root has consistently been the tournament’s highest run-scorer, participating in all four editions since its beginning.

Root’s impressive WTC performance includes 20 centuries and 23 half-centuries, maintaining an average of over 52.

He leads a distinguished list of top run-scorers, including Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Ben Stokes, and Travis Head.

This achievement adds to the former England captain’s impressive list of accomplishments. Previously in Manchester, Root surpassed legends like Rahul Dravid, Jacques Kallis, and Ricky Ponting to claim the position of the second-highest run-scorer in men’s Test cricket.

He now shares the fourth position for the most centuries in Test cricket, with 38, alongside Kumar Sangakkara.

Moreover, Root holds the record for the most catches by an outfielder in the format, a milestone he reached during the current series.

At the time of reporting, England’s score stood at 232/3 in their second innings, pursuing a target of 374. Joe Root and Harry Brook remained at the crease, both having scored half-centuries.
