Navy Commander Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, a significant figure in Iran’s military history, was martyred on Monday after sustaining injuries in US-Israeli strikes. The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced his martyrdom in a statement, highlighting the downing of an American fighter jet as a result of the operations. Tangsiri was organizing and reinforcing defensive positions on islands and coastal areas when he sustained fatal injuries. His death is set to impact ongoing military operations.
The IRGC reported that the US-Israeli aggression began with airstrikes on February 28, which assassinated Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, a former leader of the Islamic Revolution, along with senior Iranian officials and commanders. The Iranian armed forces have since conducted nearly daily missile and drone strikes targeting locations in Israeli-occupied territories, as well as US military bases and assets.
The IRGC statement commended the naval branch for maintaining firm command and decisive management in recent days. It recounted past confrontations with foreign forces, including battles from the Iran-Iraq War, seizures of foreign naval personnel, and clashes in the Strait of Hormuz. Tangsiri was seen as a key figure in these operations.
The IRGC extended condolences to Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hussein Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, the Iranian people, and the country’s naval forces. It also reinforced its commitment to continue military efforts “until the complete defeat of the enemy and the liberation of al-Quds.” Tangsiri’s death is expected to affect this determination.
The US-Israeli strikes have led to a heightened state of tension between Iran and its adversaries, with each side engaging in reciprocal actions. The IRGC’s response to these events is likely to continue, driven by a sense of duty and loyalty to Tangsiri and the nation.
