RCB Strengthened by Hazlewood’s Return Following Injury Recovery
LUCKNOW: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) received a significant boost on Sunday as Josh Hazlewood rejoined the squad ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 playoffs.
Hazlewood’s return follows his recovery from a shoulder injury and is anticipated to bolster RCB’s bowling attack as they aim for a high finish in the points table.
The 34-year-old had been absent since April 27, returning to Australia during the IPL’s break after geopolitical tensions.
During his absence, he underwent rehabilitation and commenced training in Brisbane to prepare for Australia’s World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa. Following a successful recovery, he is now prepared to contribute to RCB during the crucial knockout phase.
Despite missing recent matches, Hazlewood remains RCB’s top wicket-taker this season, securing 18 wickets in ten matches with an average of 17.27 and an economy rate of 8.44.
He currently holds the fourth position among the highest wicket-takers in IPL 2025.
With a playoff spot already secured, RCB is still striving for a top-two position to gain an advantage in reaching the final. This pursuit was hampered by a loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday, making Hazlewood’s return even more vital.
Lungi Ngidi filled in during his absence but could not produce a similar impact. Ngidi will now be unavailable for the playoffs due to his international duties with South Africa.
Krunal Pandya stands as RCB’s next most successful bowler this season with 15 wickets, followed by Yash Dayal with 10.
RCB also included Blessing Muzarabani as a replacement signing and has Nuwan Thushara in their squad, although neither has played a significant role this season.
