Parag’s Bat Faces Scrutiny, Dravid’s Reaction Speaks Volumes

Rajasthan Royals batsman Riyan Parag recently underwent an on-field bat inspection using the new gauge test, sparking discussion and criticism. This follows similar incidents earlier in the week.

Indian cricket icon Rahul Dravid appeared visibly displeased during the event on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when Parag came in to bat after skipper Sanju Samson had to retire due to an injury.

According to updated regulations from the BCCI for the upcoming IPL 2025 season, umpires can now conduct bat gauge checks on the field to ensure they meet dimension requirements.

During the examination, Parag’s bat reportedly didn’t meet the necessary size criteria. He was then instructed to switch to a different bat before play could continue.

As the situation unfolded, cameras showed Rahul Dravid with a telling expression, hinting at his disapproval.

Former England spinner Graeme Swann commented during the broadcast, stating, “Riyan Parag has just about passed the batometer (gauge). There were a few initial concerns, but it seems to have squeezed through eventually.”

Another commentator added insight, noting, “You know what he’s telling the umpire there? You’ve already checked my bat in the dressing room. Why are you checking it again? And it finally goes through. He plays with the same bat.”

Parag is not the only player to have this happen under the new regulations.

Earlier in the week, KKR’s Sunil Narine and Anrich Nortje were also required to change bats after failing the gauge test in their match against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur.
