Inter Milan Advances to Semifinals After Thrilling Draw Against Bayern
MILAN: In a captivating encounter, Inter Milan clinched a spot in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, drawing 3-3 on aggregate with Bayern Munich. The Italian side progressed due to their initial first-leg triumph, celebrated by fervent supporters at the San Siro.
Entering the second leg with a 2-1 lead, Inter saw Bayern equalize the aggregate score early in the second half. Harry Kane’s precise strike leveled the playing field. However, Inter responded swiftly, with Lautaro Martínez scoring from close range just nine minutes later.
After halftime, Inter extended their lead. Benjamin Pavard’s powerful header from Hakan Çalhanoğlu’s corner found the net, shifting the momentum firmly in Inter’s favor.
Bayern, undeterred, narrowed the deficit with Eric Dier’s header in the 76th minute, setting the stage for a tense conclusion. Bayern nearly forced extra time in the final moments, but Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer denied Thomas Müller’s header.
Tempers flared late in the match when Bayern substitute Josip Stanišić, in frustration, shoved a ballboy as Inter sought to wind down the clock. He later apologized for his actions, describing them as “a bit stupid.”
Despite Bayern’s relentless attacks and a stressful final period, Inter maintained their composure to secure a semi-final clash against Barcelona. The Nerazzurri are now only two games away from competing for European honors.
Following the hard-fought victory over a formidable opponent, Inter’s head coach, Simone Inzaghi, lauded his team and expressed his appreciation to the fans.
Inzaghi’s Statement
“It was a wonderful night in front of our fans against a very strong team. We had to play two great games, giving everything we had. The lads were splendid; it was a victory to share with the entire Interworld. Let’s move forward in this season that is giving us so many emotions. Bayern never lowered the intensity, but we responded blow for blow,” Inzaghi stated.
