Weather Alert Issued for Punjab, KP, Balochistan & Sindh

LAHORE/PESHAWAR: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has released a weather advisory for Lahore and other areas within the province, indicating sustained periods of heavy precipitation and thunderstorms.

Regrettably, the inclement weather resulted in two fatalities and left 24 individuals injured due to diverse incidents across Punjab on Monday night, as confirmed by the PDMA.

The agency stated that intense rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms is anticipated to continue until May 4 in regions such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Dera Ghazi Khan. The divisions of Multan, Sahiwal, and Bahawalpur are also projected to be impacted.

Authorities have additionally cautioned about the potential for lightning strikes over the subsequent three days and the susceptibility to landslides in Murree and the Galiyat region because of the consistent rainfall.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has indicated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) will experience partly cloudy conditions with anticipated rainfall and thunderstorms in several districts.

Peshawar registered a temperature of 30°C, with a potential rise to 35°C, coupled with 55% humidity. Powerful winds and storms are probable in various parts of the province.

In Balochistan, the atmospheric conditions are generally dry and temperate; however, southern districts might encounter light showers by evening or night, specifically in Zhob, Musa Khel, and Barkhan.

Karachi and segments of Sindh are also under the influence of a western weather pattern affecting the upper regions of the country. This system is expected to bring minimal rainfall to Hyderabad, Matiari, Sukkur, Tharparkar, and neighboring areas until May 5.

Karachi may be subjected to strong, gusty winds during this timeframe, in addition to experiencing warm and humid conditions.

The Meteorological Department noted that the weather system will likely accumulate moisture from the Arabian Sea starting May 5, which could escalate rainfall intensity in sections of Sindh.

The occurrence of unseasonal rainfall in Sindh during May is being regarded as an atypical weather occurrence, and authorities are vigilantly monitoring the unfolding developments.
