Le Roux Returns as India’s Strength and Conditioning Coach

LONDON: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has rehired Adrian le Roux as the Indian cricket team’s strength and conditioning coach, replacing Soham Desai, according to reports on Sunday.

The appointment marks le Roux’s second term with the national team, after previously serving in the same capacity from January 2002 to May 2003.

The announcement is made just weeks ahead of India’s Test match at Headingley, Leeds, on June 20.

Le Roux was recently featured in a BCCI training video, showing the Indian team training at Lord’s cricket ground and offering a look at their pre-series fitness preparations.

He brings significant experience back to the Indian setup, having recently held the same position with the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he guided the team to a second-place finish in the 2025 season.

India’s preparations are ongoing. During the training session at Lord’s, prominent players including Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Prasidh Krishna concentrated on pace exercises, while Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja also participated in intensive practice sessions.

Following the recent retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, newly appointed Test captain Shubman Gill is leading the team. India last won a Test series in England in 2007, and the team is aiming to end their drought.

The five Tests are scheduled to take place at key venues: Headingley in Leeds, Edgbaston in Birmingham, Lord’s and The Oval in London, and Old Trafford in Manchester.
