Shubman Gill to Undergo Fitness Test Ahead of Asia Cup 2025

Ahead of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, India’s vice-captain, Shubman Gill, is scheduled to undertake a mandatory fitness assessment at the National Cricket Academy’s (NCA) Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, according to reports from Indian media sources.

Sources indicate that the right-handed batsman has already arrived in Bengaluru for the fitness evaluation, a compulsory requirement for all Indian players participating in the Asia Cup.

The exact date for Gill’s fitness examination at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) facility remains unspecified. Following the test, the top-order batter is expected to travel directly to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from Bengaluru.

Gill was recently under the weather, which resulted in his absence from the ongoing Duleep Trophy inter-zonal red-ball tournament.

Reportedly, he has since recovered and spent several days training in his hometown of Chandigarh before his departure for Bengaluru.

India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 is slated to convene in the UAE on September 4. Players will arrive in the host country individually for logistical reasons, rather than assembling in Mumbai before departure.

India’s initial training session is planned for September 5 and will likely occur at the International Cricket Council (ICC) Academy.

Logistical Convenience Prioritized

“All players are expected to reach Dubai by the evening of September 4, with the first practice session scheduled for September 5. To ensure logistical ease, players are permitted to fly directly to Dubai from their respective home cities,” a senior BCCI official stated.

The Indian team will commence their campaign on September 10 against the UAE at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

India has been placed in Group A, along with Pakistan, the UAE, and Oman. Their first match is against the UAE on September 10, followed by a significant match against Pakistan on September 14.
