India Announces Squad for ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed its formidable 15-member team for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in India starting September 30. India will begin their World Cup journey by facing Sri Lanka.

Harmanpreet Kaur to Captain

Harmanpreet Kaur is set to lead the Indian side in a World Cup for the first time, with Smriti Mandhana appointed as her vice-captain.

Squad Selection

This declaration coincides with the naming of the squad for the forthcoming ODI series against Australia, succeeding India’s triumphant campaign against England in the white-ball format. The only alteration between the Australia series lineup and the World Cup team is the inclusion of Amanjot Kaur, who replaces Satghare. This tournament will be Amanjot’s first World Cup appearance.

Key players such as Deepti Sharma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh have retained their positions. Harleen Deol and Amanjot have been recognized for their consistent performances over the last couple of years.

Shafali Verma, who participated in the T20I series against England but was absent from the ODI matches, has not been included in the World Cup squad. Yastika Bhatia, following her impressive performance for India A in their 2-1 ODI series victory against Australia A, with scores of 59, 66, and 42, has been recalled to the team.

Two emerging talents, Pratika Rawal and Kranti Gaud, are poised to make their debut in the World Cup. Rawal has displayed exceptional form since her debut last year, amassing 703 runs in just 14 games, while Gaud made a strong impression during the tour of England, notably taking six wickets in the third ODI to secure the series win for India.

India’s batting lineup appears strong, featuring Mandhana, Rawal, and Deol at the top, supported by a robust middle order comprising Rodrigues, Kaur, Ghosh, and Amanjot. The spin attack will be led by Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana, along with Radha Yadav and leg-spinner Sree Charani, offering a well-rounded strategy for the home conditions. Additionally, Renuka Singh’s return from injury reinforces the pace attack, which also includes Gaud and Pooja Vastrakar. This World Cup will be Harmanpreet Kaur’s fifth appearance in the competition, but her first as captain.
