Zabarnyi Expresses Delight in Joining PSG
Illia Zabarnyi, a center-back and the first Ukrainian player to become a member of the French team, has officially committed to Paris Saint-Germain by signing a five-year agreement, the club announced Tuesday.
Media outlets have reported that the transfer reportedly amounted to approximately 63 million euros (equivalent to $73 million).
The Ukrainian international was considered a crucial component of Bournemouth’s defensive strategy, having participated in 36 matches and helping the team achieve a positive goal difference in a Premier League season for the first time, ultimately securing ninth place.
Zabarnyi commented on his signing, expressing his joy in joining PSG, acknowledging them as the best globally, and affirmed his commitment to performing at his peak.
In a statement, Zabarnyi remarked, “I am very pleased to be joining Paris Saint-Germain, the world’s top club, which features an outstanding project. I’m dedicated to giving my all on the field, and I eagerly anticipate my debut and meeting the supporters.”
Previously, the Ukrainian player debuted with his local team, Dynamo Kyiv, before transferring to Bournemouth in 2023.
PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi voiced his contentment with the acquisition of Zabarnyi, noting the player’s significant potential and the value he brings to their long-term objectives.
Al-Khelaifi stated, “We are thrilled to further strengthen our team with the signing of Illia Zabarnyi. Illia is an exceptionally talented international player and exhibits great professionalism. He is set to considerably contribute to our long-term vision at Paris Saint-Germain.”
PSG, the reigning Ligue 1 and Champions League champions, are scheduled to compete against Tottenham Hotspur in the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday.
