DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) revealed the nominees for the men’s player of the month for June 2025. South Africans Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada are in contention alongside Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka, all recognized for their remarkable displays in Test matches.

Markram’s Key Role in WTC Final

Markram was crucial in South Africa’s momentous ICC World Test Championship Final victory over Australia, aiding his team in clinching their first ICC men’s trophy in 27 years.

Rabada’s aggressive pace attack was crucial in securing South Africa’s triumph. The seasoned pacer claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings on a pitch that presented varied conditions throughout the five days.

He concluded the match with nine wickets overall and currently holds the fourth position on South Africa’s all-time Test wicket-takers list, with 336 wickets.

Nissanka Shines in Sri Lanka’s Test Series

Nissanka made a significant impact during Sri Lanka’s Test series victory against Bangladesh, commencing the new ICC World Test Championship cycle impressively.

During the first Test in Galle, Nissanka achieved a career-best score of 187 in response to Bangladesh’s 495. His innings featured 24 boundaries and one six, assisting Sri Lanka in narrowing the deficit and drawing the match.

He continued his strong performance with another century in the second Test, amassing 158 runs, including 19 boundaries.
