ICC Announces Nominees for Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revealed the contenders for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for July 2025. The nominees include top performers from India, South Africa, and England, recognized for their outstanding performances in Test cricket.
Indian batting sensation Shubman Gill, South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, and England’s captain Ben Stokes are the players in contention for this coveted monthly accolade.
Shubman Gill’s Stellar Performances
Shubman Gill enjoyed a remarkable July, amassing 567 runs at an impressive average of 94.50 across three Test matches in India’s series against England. The 25-year-old was crucial in India’s memorable victory at Edgbaston, where he scored 269 in the first innings and followed up with 161 in the second. His total of 430 runs in the match is the second-highest ever in a single Test, surpassed only by Graham Gooch’s 456.
Gill continued his excellent form by scoring 103 in the second innings of the fourth Test at Old Trafford, helping India secure a vital draw and a 2-2 series tie. Batting at No.4, he demonstrated exceptional composure and skill, effectively filling the shoes of Virat Kohli in his first series as captain. His ability to perform under pressure was key to India’s comebacks throughout the series.
Wiaan Mulder’s Record-Breaking Series
Wiaan Mulder of South Africa delivered an exceptional performance in the two-Test series against Zimbabwe. The newly appointed Test captain accumulated 531 runs at an astounding average of 265.50. This included a well-composed 147 in the second innings of the first Test. However, his most significant innings came in the second Test in Bulawayo, where he struck an unbeaten 367, which is now the highest individual score in South Africa’s Test history.
Mulder also contributed significantly with the ball, taking seven wickets at an average of just 15.28, including a four-wicket haul in the first match. His all-round excellence earned him the Player of the Series award.
Ben Stokes’ All-Round Impact
England’s skipper Ben Stokes once again showcased his prowess with a series of all-round displays during the intense three-Test series against India. Stokes scored 251 runs at an average of 50.20 and took 12 wickets at 26.33, playing a vital role in critical moments.
He was named Player of the Match in consecutive Tests, first at Lord’s, where his all-round brilliance led England to a convincing victory, and again at Old Trafford, where he claimed 5-72 and scored a rapid 141. Stokes’ century enabled England to post a massive total of 669 in their first innings. As captain, Stokes was crucial in maintaining England’s competitive spirit throughout the series. His timely breakthroughs and extended bowling spells often shifted momentum in England’s favor.
