Pakistan and Hungary Pledge Enhanced Cooperation
Pakistan and Hungary have reached a consensus to broaden their collaboration across several vital sectors. Both nations have also reaffirmed their dedication to collaborating closely within multilateral organizations, notably the United Nations (UN).
This understanding was the result of a meeting in Islamabad between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Hungarian counterpart, Péter Szijjártó.
Shared Interests and Bilateral Ties
During a joint press briefing, Ishaq Dar stated that both countries have aligned interests in areas such as agriculture, energy, healthcare, information technology, and industrial production. He emphasized the substantial potential for enhancing bilateral relations.
Dar described Hungary as a reliable and trusted ally, noting that the relationship is built on mutual understanding and a shared desire for peace, security, and advancement.
The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged Hungary’s role in Pakistan’s progress and expressed optimism about the continued positive trajectory of their bilateral ties.
Regional Matters and Global Issues
Dar mentioned that he briefed Szijjártó on regional issues, including Pakistan’s stance on the Jammu and Kashmir issue, emphasizing that it should be resolved in accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
He also restated Pakistan’s support for a two-state solution and the entitlement of Palestinians to self-determination.
Hungary’s Support and Cooperation
Szijjártó voiced his support for extending Pakistan’s GSP Plus status beyond 2027, recognizing it as a mutual advantage for both Pakistan and the European Union.
The Hungarian Minister noted that Hungarian firms have successfully completed projects related to food security and water management in Pakistan. He also pointed out the increasing trade volume between the two countries.
He declared the provision of 400 scholarships annually for Pakistani students. Accompanying him was a delegation of 17 Hungarian business representatives, aiming to explore opportunities in education, agriculture, medical science, water management, and energy.
Counter-Terrorism Efforts and Agreements
Addressing security concerns, the Hungarian Foreign Minister lauded Pakistan’s endeavors in combating terrorism, especially against groups operating from Afghanistan, highlighting their contribution to both regional and European security.
Earlier in the day, both parties formalized an agreement on visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic passports, along with two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focusing on cultural and archaeological cooperation.
