Isak’s Potential Move to Liverpool in Question
As the transfer window nears its closure on September 1, 2025, Eddie Howe has expressed uncertainty regarding Alexander Isak’s potential transfer. International media sources reported this development on Friday.
Simultaneously, Howe mentioned that Newcastle is nearing an agreement to acquire German forward Nick Woltemade.
Isak has been absent from Newcastle’s lineup this season and is currently training individually. The Swedish striker is reportedly interested in joining Liverpool before the transfer window closes.
Earlier in the month, Liverpool proposed a deal of £110m plus additional incentives for the international player. However, Newcastle turned down the offer, as they have yet to secure a suitable substitute.
Howe previously described the situation as a potential ‘lose-lose’ scenario. He has now admitted that he lacks clarity regarding Isak’s future ahead of their match against Leeds United on Saturday.
“It’s challenging for me to provide any definitive insight into the future. As I’ve stated before, I’m not privy to what the future holds because I’m not directly involved,” Howe informed reporters.
“I have no new information, and my focus remains on bringing new players into the club.”
“We’re still active in the market, seeking opportunities to further strengthen the team. I’m unsure of the exact outcome. We’ll proceed step by step, finalize the current deal, and then reassess our position.”
Howe indicated that progress is being made with Woltemade, who recently represented Germany and scored 17 goals across all competitions for VfB Stuttgart last season. Acquiring this centre-forward could pave the way for Isak’s potential move to Liverpool.
“There are encouraging signs. Progress is being made in a positive direction. However, until the deal is complete, I cannot confirm anything definitively, but I’m optimistic,” Howe stated.
“I don’t anticipate him playing against Leeds. Our primary objective is to secure a centre forward, a goal we’ve been pursuing throughout the summer. Hopefully, we are nearing that achievement.”
