Atlas Honda to Launch Electric Scooter in Pakistan
Atlas Honda announced on Tuesday its plans to introduce an electric scooter designed for the Pakistani market during the current fiscal year.
In an official notification to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company communicated its intention following the government’s announcement of the National Electric Vehicle Policy.
The new EV policy aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of promoting environmentally friendly, sustainable, and affordable transportation while supporting local industry and protecting the environment, according to the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan.
Akhtar stated that a key objective of the policy is to ensure that 30% of all new vehicles sold in Pakistan by 2030 are electric.
This shift is expected to save 2.07 billion liters of fuel annually, resulting in foreign exchange savings of approximately $1 billion.
Honda stated it is collaborating closely with regulatory authorities to obtain the necessary permissions and approvals for a seamless launch.
The company informed PSX that it intends to launch the product within the current financial year after completing the required quality and road tests.
Honda has previously tested electric vehicles. In 2023, the company presented its electric scooter, ‘BENLY e’, during a soft launch at its Sheikhupura factory.
Atlas Honda’s Chief Officer of Motorcycle and Power Products, Noriaki Abe, mentioned at the event that ‘BENLY e’ would be offered for test marketing, with new products introduced based on feedback.
