Hesson Lauds Babar and Rizwan, Highlights Areas for Growth
Newly appointed head coach for Pakistan, Mike Hesson, voiced his strong belief in the capabilities of veteran players Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, emphasizing their importance in the team’s limited-overs strategy.
During a press interaction in Lahore, Hesson commended Babar and Rizwan’s talents while also pinpointing aspects that need further refinement.
“Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are exceptional players and key to our white-ball ambitions,” Hesson stated. “They possess the potential for further enhancement, an aspect they are diligently pursuing.”
Earlier in the year, both players were omitted from the T20I series against New Zealand as part of the selection committee’s initiative to provide opportunities for emerging talents on the international stage.
Moreover, Rizwan’s tenure as T20I captain concluded after just two series, with Salman Ali Agha succeeding him in the role.
The 50-year-old coach highlighted his aspiration for a proactive yet calculated approach to cricket.
“We aim to adopt an aggressive yet intelligent brand of cricket. We have a well-defined vision for the style of play we intend to implement,” Hesson explained.
His inaugural assignment as head coach will be a three-match T20I series against Bangladesh.
“Our objective is to commence this new chapter positively and deliver strong performances to elevate our rankings,” Hesson affirmed.
He also acknowledged Bangladesh’s competitiveness, cautioning against any underestimation.
“They are a formidable team and exhibit quality cricket. We will approach them with due respect,” he added.
Looking forward to the upcoming T20 World Cup, the former cricketer conveyed confidence and resolve.
“We are completely dedicated to preparing thoroughly for the World Cup and remain optimistic about achieving a notable performance in the tournament,” he concluded.
It is worth noting that the national squad maintained its training regimen at Gaddafi Cricket Stadium, engaging in batting, bowling, and fielding drills under the guidance of coaching staff. Prior to the net session, they also participated in fitness and conditioning exercises. Players who participated in the PSL 10 final were granted a rest day.
All three T20Is are scheduled to take place at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on May 28, May 30, and June 1.
