HEC Issues Alert Regarding Information Theft Attempts
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a warning to the public concerning fraudsters who are imitating official departments and employing deceptive websites to pilfer data.
In a message shared on X, HEC included a brief video stating: “Public Alert: Fraudsters are posing as HEC and utilizing fraudulent websites to steal information. HEC never requests OTPs, passwords, or banking details. Please report any suspicious activity.”
The HEC clarified in the video that the department does not make calls regarding payment attestation, nor does it ask for one-time passwords (OTPs), personal passwords, or bank account information.
The education commission has also prompted individuals to be cautious of fraudulent calls and websites. Citizens are strongly advised against sharing any private or financial details with potential scammers.
HEC has stated that it maintains only one official website, which contains all pertinent information.
The HEC advised in the video: “Report any suspicious calls and websites to the helplines of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the National Response Centre for Cyber Crime.”
