Karachi Traffic Accidents Claim More Lives

According to police reports, a recent deadly incident involving a water tanker has increased the number of fatalities from serious traffic accidents in Karachi to 138 this year. The latest event took place in the vicinity of Future Mor in Landhi, where Muhammad Fasih, a motorcyclist, was fatally struck by a water tanker.

Following the incident, the tanker truck driver immediately left the location, abandoning the vehicle. Law enforcement initiated an immediate investigation, and authorities later verified the driver’s capture. This most recent tragedy highlights growing worries about Karachi’s road safety due to the rising number of fatalities caused by accidents involving heavy vehicles.

This event occurs shortly after another tragic incident on June 19, when a speeding dumper truck loaded with sand crashed onto a car close to Drigh Road, killing a woman and a child and injuring two more. The catastrophic tragedy, which happened about 3:15 a.m., was caused by a dangerous race between dumper trucks, which crushed the car under its massive load.

Prior to that, on May 31, five separate incidents resulted in at least five deaths, one of whom was a college professor.

The alarming frequency of high-speed dumper truck accidents, which have resulted in numerous deaths and injuries in recent months, has prompted authorities to announce a number of safety precautions. The continuous problem has heightened calls for stricter enforcement of current traffic regulations and considerable upgrades to the city’s road infrastructure in order to prevent more tragedies.

Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho emphasized the necessity of institutional cooperation in March to effectively manage traffic concerns. He said that ongoing development projects contribute to congestion and highlighted the Transport Department’s critical role in resolving these difficult issues.
