Weather Alert: Wind, Thunderstorms, and Hailstorms Forecasted Across Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for wind accompanied by thunderstorms and isolated hailstorms in the upper and central regions of the nation from May 1st to 4th. This weather shift is anticipated to bring relief from the existing heatwave conditions.

The Met Office indicates that a westerly wave is predicted to impact the upper parts of the country starting on the evening of April 30th, with humid air currents expected to move into northeast Punjab beginning May 1st.

Due to this weather pattern, various areas are expected to experience wind, thunderstorms, and the possibility of intense rainfall and hailstorms.

Areas Expected to be Affected:
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur)
  • Islamabad/Rawalpindi
  • Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, and Narowal

Rainfall is also anticipated in Lahore, Sahiwal, Kasur, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali, along with Chitral, Dir, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, and Malakand.

Other regions potentially impacted include Waziristan, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Bajaur, Mohmand, Karak, Khyber, Peshawar, Mardan, and Kurram, in addition to Gilgit-Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar). These areas can expect rain from the evening or night of April 30th until May 4th, with intermittent breaks.

Duststorms and thunderstorms may also occur in Multan, DG Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Khairpur, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Umerkot, Zhob, Khuzdar, Musakhel, and Barkhan from the night of May 2nd to May 5th.

The Met Office has cautioned that strong winds, hail, and lightning could potentially damage electrical infrastructure, trees, vehicles, solar panels, and other unsecured structures. The public is advised to exercise caution, particularly during periods of thunderstorms.

Farmers, notably those involved in wheat harvesting, are encouraged to adjust their agricultural activities accordingly.

All pertinent authorities have been instructed to maintain vigilance and implement the necessary preventative measures to mitigate any adverse situations.
