Karachi Kings Secure Decisive Victory
Karachi: The Karachi Kings, led by David Warner, achieved their second triumph in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 on Friday. They defeated the Quetta Gladiators by a substantial margin of 56 runs at the National Bank Stadium, showcasing a remarkable all-around performance.
The Gladiators, in pursuit of a 176-run target, were limited to 119-9. Their batting order faced early difficulties, commencing in the initial over when Mir Hamza removed Finn Allen for a mere six runs, leaving the score at 8-1 after just five balls.
In the subsequent over, Hasan Ali made an impact by dismissing Hassan Nawaz for only one run. This wicket marked Ali’s 114th in PSL history, establishing him as the tournament’s leading wicket-taker.
Kusal Mendis and Saud Shakeel briefly attempted to stabilize the innings; however, their partnership was short-lived. Mendis was sent back for 12 runs off eight deliveries, leaving the Gladiators at 34-3 after 3.5 overs.
The Gladiators’ troubles worsened as they consistently lost wickets under growing pressure. Hasan Ali secured his second wicket by dismissing Khawaja Nafay for a single run.
Mohammad Nabi bowled a maiden over to conclude the powerplay, followed by claiming the crucial wicket of Rilee Rossouw. The Gladiators were struggling at 37-5 after six overs.
The slide continued as Abbas Afridi claimed his first wicket, sending Faheem Ashraf back for only three runs, leaving the Gladiators at 47-6 after nine overs.
Following the strategic timeout, Abbas struck once more, removing Sean Abbott for a mere three runs, placing the Gladiators at 57-7 in 11.4 overs.
A 43-run partnership between Mohammad Amir and Saud Shakeel for the eighth wicket provided a glimmer of hope for the Gladiators. Their efforts were focused on achieving a respectable score and avoiding a significant defeat.
Nevertheless, Amir’s innings concluded at 30 off 16 balls, dismissed by Aamer Jamal, leaving the Gladiators at 100-8 in 16.5 overs.
Hasan Ali finalized his three-wicket haul, dismissing Abrar Ahmed for only five runs, leaving the Gladiators at 110-9 in 18.4 overs.
Ultimately, the Gladiators were restricted to 119-9, with Saud Shakeel remaining unbeaten on 33 and Ali Majid contributing nine.
For the Kings, Hasan Ali led the bowling attack with three wickets, while Mohammad Nabi and Abrar Ahmed each claimed two wickets.
Earlier in the match, the Kings’ opening duo, Tim Seifert and captain David Warner, established a solid start, accumulating 50 runs during the powerplay after electing to bat first.
However, Abrar Ahmed of the Gladiators struck first, dismissing Warner for 31 off 20 balls, leaving the Kings at 60-1 in 5.4 overs.
In the seventh over, Saud Shakeel removed Seifert for 27 off 15 balls, reducing the Kings to 62-2 in 6.2 overs.
Ali Majid, debuting for the Gladiators, maintained the pressure by dismissing Muhammad Riazullah and then Khushdil Shah for just a single run, placing the Kings at 91-4 in 11.2 overs.
A 34-run partnership between James Vince and Irfan Khan provided the Kings with some stability; however, Irfan’s dismissal by Sean Abbott for 17 left the score at 125-5 in 15.1 overs.
Vince, with a crucial contribution of 70 runs, achieved his second half-century of the tournament, supported by Mohammad Nabi, who added 18 runs.
Mohammad Amir made a late impact, dismissing both Nabi and Vince in the final over, as the Kings concluded their innings at 175-7. For the Gladiators, Amir and Majid each secured two wickets.
