Haris Rauf Responds to Journalist’s Critique After T20I Match
SHARJAH: Following Pakistan’s victory against Afghanistan in the T20I series opener at Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Friday, Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf voiced his displeasure with a journalist’s inquiry.
During the post-game press briefing, a reporter implied that the ongoing tri-series served merely as preparation for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2025, which is scheduled to take place at the same location the following month.
Rauf challenged this perspective, asserting that international cricket should not be regarded as mere practice.
“You suggest it was a warm-up match, but I contend that every international fixture carries significance. These matches are always high-pressure environments and demand a focused approach. Regardless of the lineup, the objective is to implement strategies effectively,” he stated.
Tense Exchange
The interaction intensified when the journalist commented, “Pakistan’s fielding was substandard.”
This remark clearly took Rauf by surprise, leading him to defend his team.
“I believe your assessment of the match might be inaccurate. Our fielding performance was satisfactory. Upon review, you’ll likely find the match displayed good standards,” he replied.
When questioned about whether Afghanistan was the favored team, the 31-year-old pacer immediately dismissed the idea.
“I’ve no reason to consider any side as the favorite over our team. We always step on the field as the frontrunners,” he stated.
Leadership and Team Unity
Rauf emphasized the value of leadership and respect for the captain, pointing out that team cohesion and open lines of communication are critical for effectively handling pressure.
“The Pakistan captain always has my respect. I will show respect to whomever leads the team,” Rauf commented.
“We, as players, will show respect, keep communication open, and I believe it will be easier to execute the plan on the field. The captain needs to have a strong bonding with the team, and his messages should always be clear,” he added.
