Hafeez’s Two-Word Counsel for Babar Azam

Mohammad Hafeez, the former Pakistani all-rounder, recently engaged with fans on ‘X’, offering his straightforward perspectives on various facets of Pakistan cricket. This included commentary on PCB chairman appointments, squad selections, and emerging talent.

Responding to a query about political influence in team matters, Hafeez was direct.

“The appointment of the PCB chairman invariably hinges on political considerations. Beyond that, I cannot say,” he noted, suggesting significant political involvement within the board.

When questioned about his absence from the Pakistan Cricket Board as a coach or mentor, Hafeez responded, “M minus one at present, and M loving it.”

The former team director also commended young batsmen Abdullah Shafique and Saim Ayub, identifying them as crucial for Pakistan’s future in cricket.

“Abdullah Shafiq and Saim Ayub represent the future of Pakistan cricket. Hopefully, they can avoid distractions,” he remarked.

Despite Pakistan’s up-and-down showings recently, the former right-handed batter affirmed his ongoing passionate support for the team.

“It is painful as a supporter when Pakistan underperforms. Nevertheless, my support is unwavering, and I consistently want the team to achieve success,” he declared.

Addressing the frequently discussed topic of keeping Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan in the national lineup, Hafeez acknowledged their valuable contributions.

“Babar and Rizwan are accomplished athletes who have fulfilled key roles in securing victories for Pakistan. They simply need to refine their strategy and abilities to amplify their impact. They possess the aptitude to achieve this,” he commented.

Hafeez also voiced his support for Multan Sultans’ captain Mohammad Rizwan, in light of recent critique concerning his English language proficiency. “It’s disheartening to witness individuals disparaging a celebrity because of their linguistic capabilities. Truly unfortunate,” he expressed.

When asked what guidance he would provide to Babar Azam, Hafeez succinctly stated: “Keep learning.”

In anticipation of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, Hafeez identified Saim Ayub as a potential choice for Pakistan’s opening batsman, underscoring his confidence in the young left-hander’s potential.
