Gunther Suspended Following Attack on Michael Cole and Pat McAfee on WWE RAW
Gunther, formerly the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, is facing serious repercussions for his conduct on this week’s Monday Night RAW episode.
Adam Pearce, the General Manager of the red brand, has announced the suspension of The Ring General after a violent incident during the program.
Gunther, visibly upset after his World Heavyweight Championship loss to Jey Uso at WrestleMania 41, made an appearance on RAW. The situation intensified when Gunther confronted Michael Cole after the commentator brought up his submission defeat at the major event.
In a fit of anger, the Imperium leader attempted to choke Cole, prompting Pat McAfee to step in to defend his colleague. Unfortunately, McAfee then became the target of Gunther’s brutal chokehold, necessitating immediate medical evaluation backstage.
WWE’s official X account subsequently posted a video featuring General Manager Adam Pearce, who provided an update regarding the situation.
Pearce assured supporters that both McAfee and Cole were in good health, with McAfee covering the NFL draft in Green Bay, and Cole preparing for the upcoming RAW. He further criticized Gunther’s actions, describing them as “reprehensible and disgusting.”
Pearce further stated that Gunther had been fined an undisclosed amount and suspended indefinitely as a result of his actions.
Notably, it was at WWE WrestleMania 41 that Jey Uso made history by defeating Gunther to win the World Heavyweight Championship.
The intense battle occurred on the first night of the two-night event, culminating in Uso forcing Gunther to submit—a rare occurrence for the Austrian wrestler.
The match included a number of dramatic moments, such as Gunther’s punishing maneuvers like forceful corner whips, powerful chops, and a shotgun dropkick after a suplex from the ropes.
Uso responded with a spear, Samoan Drop, hurricanrana, and a top-rope Uso Splash. Despite Gunther’s resistance, which included using the championship belt as a weapon, Uso eventually locked him in a sleeper hold, ending the dominant reign of The Ring General.
This victory marks not only the conclusion of Gunther’s impressive World Heavyweight Championship tenure but also a significant accomplishment for Jey Uso, who secured his second singles title in WWE.
His initial championship victory was against Bron Breakker for the Intercontinental Championship during a WWE Raw episode streamed on Netflix last year.
