Federal Budget 2025-26 to be Unveiled in National Assembly
The federal government is set to present the budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, with an estimated outlay of Rs17.6 trillion, before the National Assembly on Tuesday for deliberation and endorsement.
Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, will introduce the financial plan in the National Assembly. Concurrently, he is also scheduled to table the Finance Bill 2024 in the Senate, fulfilling the constitutional requirement outlined in Article 73.
This marks Finance Minister Aurangzeb’s second budget address to the National Assembly.
According to credible sources, the government forecasts record gross federal revenues of Rs19.4 trillion for the upcoming fiscal year, indicating a Rs1.6 trillion surge. The tax collection target is set at Rs14,130 billion.
The proposed tax revenue distribution includes Rs6,450 billion from direct taxes, Rs4,900 billion from sales tax revenue, Rs1,150 billion from excise duties, and Rs1,740 billion from Customs duties. Revenue from petroleum levy collections is projected to be Rs1,311 billion.
Non-tax revenue is estimated to reach Rs4,000 billion, with the provincial surplus budget projected at Rs1,200 billion.
The National Assembly Secretariat announced that Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has sanctioned the schedule for the forthcoming National Assembly sessions concerning the presentation and review of the Federal Budget for the fiscal year 2025–26.
The Federal Budget 2025–26 is scheduled for presentation in the National Assembly on June 10, 2025. The House will adjourn on June 11 and 12, with budget discussions commencing on June 13, 2025.
Speaker Sadiq affirmed that all parliamentary groups represented in the National Assembly will receive fair time to engage in the budget debate, adhering to the assembly’s established rules and procedures. The general discussion on the budget will continue until June 21, culminating in the formal conclusion of the debate on the same day.
The House will not convene on June 22. On June 23, the National Assembly will deliberate on the charged expenditures for the fiscal year 2025–26, followed by debates and voting on Demands for Grants and Cut Motions on June 24 and 25.
The National Assembly will address the Finance Bill 2025 for approval on June 26, with discussions and votes on supplementary grants and related matters scheduled for June 27, 2025.
