Goldberg Returns to WWE, Challenges Gunther
Monday Night Raw was electrified by the unexpected comeback of WWE Hall of Famer and former World Heavyweight Champion, Goldberg. He confronted current titleholder Gunther at the Resch Center, thrilling the audience.
After an absence of eight months from WWE events, the 58-year-old wrestling icon made his presence felt on the June 16th broadcast. This appearance is expected to be his last performance in the ring.
Earlier in the year, Goldberg had stated his intention to retire in 2024, creating considerable anticipation among his fanbase.
Gunther, while in the ring, was celebrating his status as a double world champion when Goldberg’s iconic music interrupted him.
The crowd roared as the legendary wrestler made his way to the ring.
After Gunther acknowledged the fans, Goldberg seized the microphone and issued a challenge: a one-on-one showdown at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12 in Atlanta, Georgia.
This contest will be Goldberg’s final match, resolving a long-standing rivalry that began almost a year prior.
The origins of the feud can be traced back to October 2023, when Gunther disrespected Goldberg during an exchange involving WWE official Triple H.
This event sparked a conflict that has grown over time, with tensions escalating after a recent encounter in Atlanta that is said to have involved Goldberg’s family.
“I came out here to congratulate you,” Goldberg told Gunther in the ring. “I’m proud of all you’ve accomplished. But we both know things didn’t end well in Atlanta. You crossed a line — and I’m going to finish this, right there, where it started.”
Concluding his statement with his signature phrase, Goldberg stared at Gunther and said: “You’re mine… because you’re next.”
Goldberg’s celebrated career began in 1997, and he quickly gained popularity, being named Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Rookie of the Year in 1998.
His accomplishments include a WCW World Heavyweight Championship, two United States Championships, two WWE Universal Championships, and a World Tag Team Championship with Bret Hart.
