TikToker Sumeera Rajput Found Dead in Ghotki; Forced Marriage Allegations Surface
A TikTok content creator, Sumeera Rajput, was discovered deceased at her residence in Bago Wah, situated in Sindh’s Ghotki district, as confirmed by local law enforcement on Friday.
According to District Police Officer Anwar Shaikh, Rajput’s 15-year-old daughter has alleged that her mother was poisoned by individuals who were coercing her into an unwanted marriage.
Rajput’s daughter stated that the suspects administered poisonous tablets to her mother, which led to her demise. Rajput had a significant online presence with over 58,000 followers and one million likes on the TikTok platform.
The body has been transported to a nearby hospital for a detailed post-mortem examination. Medical Superintendent Dr. Sarwanand mentioned that the initial assessment did not indicate any apparent signs of physical trauma. However, samples have been dispatched to a laboratory to determine the precise cause of death.
Authorities have detained two individuals on suspicion, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway. At this time, a formal first information report (FIR) has not been officially filed.
Police officials have stated that the motivation behind the suspected killing is still unclear. They are exploring various avenues to ascertain whether any criminal activity was involved.
This event highlights a concerning pattern involving female content creators becoming targets of violence.
In a recent incident last month, Sana Yousaf, a 17-year-old TikTok user, was fatally shot inside her home in Islamabad’s G-13/1 sector. This incident has heightened concerns regarding the safety and security of social media influencers.
The crime occurred within the jurisdiction of the Sumbal police station and sparked widespread outrage among internet users and human rights advocates. Yousaf, who had a substantial following of over 740,000 on TikTok, was reportedly in the company of her aunt when the incident occurred.
Islamabad Police apprehended the suspect, identified as Umar Hayat, also known as “Kaka,” in Faisalabad within approximately 20 hours of the crime taking place.
