Gary Kirsten has resigned as Pakistan’s white-ball coach—responsible for ODI and T20 formats—just six months after joining the role. His departure comes amid growing tension with the Pakistan Cricket Board, particularly over team selection powers being transferred to an independent committee.

Appointed in April 2024, Kirsten led the team through the T20 World Cup schedule but was unable to complete an ODI series under his leadership. Sources reveal he was dissatisfied with being removed from the selection process, a move that sidelined both him and Test coach Jason Gillespie. This disagreement peaked when the national captaincy was announced without Kirsten’s input.

Following Kirsten’s exit, PCB confirmed that Jason Gillespie will take over coaching duties for the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia. With both white-ball and red-ball coaching positions unsettled, Pakistan now faces a critical challenge in stabilizing leadership while preparing for future international commitments.
