Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur stated on Tuesday that his government-provided security had been withdrawn by the provincial administration, and he would refuse its return. Gandapur, who resigned from his position in October of the previous year, alleged that the deputy chief security officer (CSO) to the current KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi contacted his security personnel late at night, instructing them to return. He mentioned that his security detail had included a provincial government jammer, a double-cabin vehicle, and 14 personnel. Gandapur recounted instructing his security to “just close up” when they approached him. He further emphasized his refusal of the security, even if reinstated, stating, “I want to inform the chief minister that there is no need to return my security. I do not require it.” However, a spokesperson for the KP Chief Minister’s House refuted the claims, denying any withdrawal of Gandapur’s security and stating that no such directives had been issued. Gandapur, a prominent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader, stepped down as KP CM on October 8 last year, shortly after the party announced Sohail Afridi’s nomination for the role. At the time, he posted on X, citing “respectful compliance of the orders of my leader, and founding PTI chairman, Imran Khan.” Earlier, Member National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat had suggested that Gandapur’s resignation was partly due to his inability to secure the release of PTI founder Imran Khan from jail. Following Gandapur’s resignation, Afridi was elected as the new chief executive of KP on October 13 and took the oath of office on October 15.
