Nadal Confirms Appearance at French Open
Tennis icon Rafael Nadal is slated to be celebrated at the upcoming French Open 2025 event on May 25, acknowledging his contributions to tennis.
Organizers have stated that the ceremony will occur on Court Philippe-Chatrier, where Nadal secured a record-breaking 14 French Open titles.
The Spanish tennis star previously declined a tribute last year after his defeat to Alexander Zverev in the opening round, due to uncertainties about his future plans.
This year, he has accepted the honor. In a post on X, Nadal communicated his presence at the French Open, stating, “See you soon, Paris.”
Amélie Mauresmo, the tournament director, mentioned the tribute had been arranged the previous year, however Nadal’s retirement plans were unclear.
Mauresmo explained, “We had planned something for him. He wanted to keep the option open to return next year, as he was unsure if it would be his last Roland Garros.”
Following Rafael Nadal’s announcement of his retirement in 2024, a small ceremony took place at the Davis Cup Finals in October of the previous year. However, it did not satisfy fans and other tennis figures.
His uncle, Toni Nadal, described the ceremony as “scruffy and shabby,” while Novak Djokovic noted that it “wasn’t done properly.”
