The decision was finalized during a high-level meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Culture and Tourism, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah. It was decided that the Thar Desert Train Safari, already a captivating tourist experience in itself, will be temporarily transformed into a Freedom Train to mark the significance of August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day. This symbolic train ride will carry with it themes of freedom, heritage, and unity, connecting urban vibrancy with rural tradition.

The Freedom Train will depart from Karachi on August 13, moving through several culturally and historically significant cities Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Umerkot before reaching its final destination at Zero Point in Tharparkar. The return journey is scheduled for the evening of August 14, allowing passengers to experience the full festive ambiance of the Independence Day celebrations in the heart of the Thar Desert.
