Extensive Flooding Engulfs Kartarpur and Surrounding Areas
Widespread flooding has submerged the Kartarpur region, impacting residences, agricultural lands, and the revered Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. Social media platforms are showcasing visuals of the shrine encircled by floodwaters.
According to a district administration representative, inhabitants and their animals are being moved to safer locations as conditions deteriorate. A heightened alert has been implemented, and locals are strongly urged to avoid riverbanks.
The administration has verified that increasing water levels have already inundated numerous villages, resulting in crop damage and affecting livelihoods across the district. The representative emphasized that relief operations are in progress.
Rising Water Levels at Head Baloki and Shahdara
At Head Baloki on the Ravi River, water levels continue to increase, raising worries about further downstream flooding.
Authorities have also issued a warning about potential extensive flooding in the Ravi River at Shahdara. Punjab is encountering a notably elevated risk of inundation due to substantial rainfall and surplus water discharged by India from dams.
The National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) reports that the Ravi at Jassar is experiencing a significant flood of 202,200 cusecs, with projections indicating a possible rise to 229,700 cusecs.
In Lahore, the river at Shahdara is currently flowing at 72,900 cusecs, posing a flood threat to low-lying regions, including Shahdara, Park View, and Motorway-2.
The peak flow is anticipated to reach Shahdara between 10 p.m. and midnight before progressing toward Balloki at approximately 9 a.m.
Coordination with Indian Authorities
The Indian High Commission has communicated data with Pakistan, based on which the Indus Water Commissioner’s office has issued a flood alert.
As per the warning, a substantial flood is expected in the Sutlej at Ferozepur (downstream), in the Ravi at Madhopur (downstream), and in the Chenab at Akhnoor.
