SKARDU: In a tragic incident, five people lost their lives when a landslide struck their car on the Jagot-Skardu road.
According to the local police, the landslide caused the vehicle to be buried under heavy debris, and the car disappeared from sight. Rescue teams launched an immediate search operation, and after a thorough search, the car was located in a deep ditch beneath the rubble.
The bodies of all five passengers were recovered from the wreckage, and rescue officials promptly transported the deceased to a nearby hospital for identification and further formalities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an advisory for the coming 24 hours, forecasting cold and dry weather across most regions. Very cold and partly cloudy conditions are expected in hilly areas, including Skardu, which could worsen the already hazardous conditions.
Weather Warning and Safety Precautions
As foggy conditions are likely to affect several parts of the region, the PMD has urged citizens to exercise caution while traveling, especially in the hilly areas, where weather-related incidents are more common during the winter months.
This tragic event underscores the dangers posed by landslides in mountainous regions, particularly during the winter season when the ground is saturated from rain and snowmelt.
