Chelsea Clinches Club World Cup Title with Decisive Victory Over PSG
Chelsea secured the Club World Cup title with a commanding 3-0 triumph against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the final match on Sunday.
FIFA unveiled the tournament’s all-star squad on Monday for the 2025 Club World Cup, prominently featuring four Chelsea players.
Cole Palmer shone brightly in the first half, contributing two goals and setting up Joao Pedro for the third, solidifying the victory for the Blues.
FIFA’s team of the tournament includes Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, Enzo Fernandez, Palmer, and Pedro Neto.
Fernandez distinguished himself as the tournament’s leading assist provider with three assists and also contributed a goal.
Neto and Palmer each scored three goals, with Palmer also notching two assists and earning the Golden Ball award. Cucurella played a crucial role in securing three clean sheets across his six appearances.
Former Chelsea defender Thiago Silva, currently with Fluminense, was also selected for the prestigious XI.
Al-Hilal’s goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, received recognition with a spot on the team of the tournament. PSG finalists Achraf Hakimi and Marquinhos joined Cucurella and Silva to form the defensive lineup.
PSG’s Vitinha, Fluminense’s Jhon Arias, and Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Garcia rounded out the team.
Chelsea, who previously won the 2021 Club World Cup when it featured eight teams, progressed to the final of the expanded 32-team tournament after overcoming Benfica of Portugal, along with Brazilian teams Palmeiras and Fluminense in the knockout stages.
The final proved to be lopsided, as the champions of the European Cup and French league underperformed, despite a dominant 4-0 victory over Real Madrid in the semi-final.
