PSL 9: Munro’s Bowling Action Doubts Spark Controversy in United vs. Sultans Clash
MULTAN: A Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans became contentious when Colin Munro seemingly questioned the legality of Iftikhar Ahmed’s bowling technique.
The dispute arose during the tenth over while Iftikhar was bowling to the New Zealand batsman, Munro.
After playing a delivery, Munro gestured in a way that commentators and viewers perceived as an implication of “chucking” – an unlawful bowling action.
Iftikhar immediately protested, turning to the umpires to report the perceived infraction.
Multan Sultans’ captain, Mohammad Rizwan, also engaged in a heated discussion with Munro before the umpires intervened to ease the situation.
In an ironic turn, Iftikhar had the last laugh, with Bracewell dismissing Munro in the subsequent over, leading to a visible reaction from the batter in the team dugout.
Meanwhile, Islamabad United secured a comfortable seven-wicket victory over Multan Sultans in the 13th match of the PSL 9 at Multan Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, thanks to a controlled bowling performance and an undefeated half-century by Andries Gous.
The visitors chased down a target of 169 runs with ease, losing only three wickets and with 17 balls remaining.
However, the three-time champions had a shaky start to their chase, as opener Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed in the third over by Ubaid Shah with 29 runs on the board. He scored 22 runs from 13 balls, including three fours and a six.
Gous was then partnered by Colin Munro, and together they steered United into a dominant position, adding 81 runs for the second wicket until Munro was dismissed by Michael Bracewell in the 11th over.
Gous remained unbeaten, top-scoring for United with 80 runs from 45 balls, featuring six fours and five sixes.
Islamabad remains undefeated, with five wins in five games and a total of 10 points. Their upcoming match is against Lahore Qalandars at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on April 30.
