Faisalabad to Launch New Cargo and Passenger Trains
Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FCCI) Acting President Qaisar Shams Gucha has stated that coordinated efforts, involving all relevant sectors, will be initiated to introduce new cargo and passenger train services. This initiative aims to address the requirements of the local business community.
He made these remarks while speaking at a Coordination Committee session tasked with liaising with the CEO of Pakistan Railways, following Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi’s recent visit. The meeting concluded with the decision to form a joint committee comprising members from FCCI, FDPT, FIEDMC, and Customs, along with the CEO of Railways. This committee will develop a strategy for launching fresh passenger and freight train services from Faisalabad.
Coordination Committee Chairman Muzammil Sultan urged FCCI to formally request Pakistan Railways to reroute existing business and cargo trains operating between Lahore and Karachi through Faisalabad. Additionally, a joint meeting involving FCCI, FIEDMC, Railways, FDTP, and Customs will be scheduled to establish a dedicated substation and platforms within the M3 Industrial Estate. This infrastructure aims to facilitate the rapid transportation of export and import goods.
Sultan added that FCCI should also send a formal request to the chairman of FIEDMC, inviting them to join the committee. Furthermore, letters should be sent to Pakistan Railways to reinstate the executive lounge at Faisalabad Railway Station and to restore quotas for FCCI members on various trains.
The meeting saw participation from Mian Muhammad Latif, Executive Members Mirza Zahid Iqbal, Engineer Bilal Jamil, and Faisal Pracha, who also contributed their insights.
