FBR Extends Sales Tax and Federal Excise Return Deadline

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has granted an extension for submitting Sales Tax and Federal Excise Returns for the tax period of March 2025, now set for April 25, 2025. This extension is contingent upon the timely deposit of the applicable sales tax liability.

In a recent directive, the FBR communicated these instructions to the Chief Commissioners Inland Revenue, overseeing Large Taxpayers Offices (LTOs), Medium Taxpayers Offices (MTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs), and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs).

Further Extension Details

Exercising authority under section 74 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990, and section 43 of the Federal Excise Act, 2005, the FBR has stipulated that the deadline for submitting the Sales Tax and Federal Excise Return for February 2025, originally due on March 18, 2025, then extended to April 13, 2025, is now extended until April 25, 2025. This is conditional on the corresponding sales tax liability being settled by the original due date.

The FBR further clarified that the submission date for the Sales Tax and Federal Excise Return for March 2025, initially due on April 18, 2025, is also extended to April 25, 2025, provided that the relevant sales tax liability was paid within the initially stipulated timeframe.
