Police Report Claims Chanesar Town Chairman Case a ‘Simple Quarrel’

Karachi: In the case against Chanesar Town Chairman Farhan Ghani and others, law enforcement has presented a report to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Karachi. The report characterizes the incident as a straightforward dispute without the use of weapons.

The investigation indicates that the complainant did not provide a mandatory No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the digging operation and couldn’t substantiate their affiliation with a government organization.

Furthermore, the report mentions the absence of any CCTV recordings retrieved from the location where the event took place.

Police informed the court that the individual who filed the complaint went to the police station and stated that they were dropping the matter. Accused individuals, including Farhan Ghani, were freed as a result of his declaration and a shortage of supporting data.

The report also stated that the case was dismissed due to the complainant’s retraction and the absence of evidence.

During the court session, the conduct of the Investigation Officer (IO), particularly in relation to the suspects’ surety bonds, was called into question.

Later, the IO gave the court the bond report. The proceedings were then postponed until September 2, and the defendants were given notices in accordance with Section 497 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

Farhan refuted the accusations in an earlier hearing, stating that he was just driving by when he saw illegal excavation work being done.

He asserted that, in his capacity as Town Chairman, he had the right to request an NOC. He told the court, “I only requested that they provide the permission document. I instructed them to quit when they didn’t. Nobody was hurt by me.”

After an FIR was filed against him at the Ferozabad police station, Farhan, the younger brother of Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani, turned himself in to the authorities last week.

Hafiz Sohail, who is said to be a government employee, filed the complaint alleging that he was assaulted on August 22 while monitoring fiber cable work on a service road off Sharea Faisal.

Farhan and his accomplices were charged in the FIR with attempted murder, terrorism, and other offenses.
