Sahibzada Farhan Reflects on PSL Success and Future Aspirations

Islamabad United’s opening batsman, Sahibzada Farhan, recently shared insights into his current form, his role within the team, and the areas he’s been developing in an interview. He has amassed 245 runs in six PSL 10 games.

Farhan acknowledged that his strong performances in domestic cricket were crucial in securing his place in the Islamabad United squad during the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season.

“My performances in the National T20 were a key factor, and I knew opportunities were available. I appreciate Islamabad United for choosing me,” Farhan stated, noting he wasn’t initially picked in the PSL Player Draft this year.

Consistent Performance and Future Goals

When discussing the reasons behind his consistent displays, the 29-year-old batsman mentioned, “I have maintained a consistent performance level over the last four years.”

“For the past two years, my form in four-day cricket has been excellent, and more recently, I performed well in the One-Day tournament. My current focus is on enhancing my strike rate. Should I receive another opportunity to represent Pakistan, I aim to implement my game with an improved strike rate,” he elaborated.

Support from Islamabad United

Farhan also gave credit to Islamabad United for the autonomy granted to him.

“They have provided me freedom, allowing me to play naturally. Occasionally, Shadab Khan and Salman Ali Agha offer advice in the nets, but I am focused on executing the shots I’ve practiced in previous matches,” he added.

Reflecting on His Century

Looking back on his first PSL century, achieved against Peshawar Zalmi at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on April 14, Farhan remarked, “I felt confident from the outset that I could achieve a century in this HBL PSL edition. I set ambitious goals, and it turned out to be one of my finest innings. I am eager to replicate that performance in this tournament.”

Comfort and Familiarity with the Team

Having previously played for United in 2018 and 2019, Farhan expressed a sense of belonging with the franchise.

“Islamabad United is a familiar team to me. I have played here twice before and know Shadab both as a captain and teammate. I am enjoying my time here and am focused on improving my batting every day,” Farhan stated.

Team Focus

Farhan emphasised that the team is staying focused despite their positive start to the season.

“We will not become complacent after securing five wins. The competition is ongoing, and our priority is to qualify for the play-offs,” he said.

Islamabad United currently tops the PSL X points table with 10 points from six games, having won five and lost only once to Lahore Qalandars at Gaddafi Stadium.

Farhan, who joined the squad after topping the National T20 Cup charts with 605 runs in seven games at a strike rate of 189.66 and an average of 121, has maintained that form in the PSL. He has accumulated 245 runs in six matches at a strike rate of 161.18, including one century and one half-century.
