Fakhar Zaman Surpasses Babar Azam in T20I Catches

DHAKA: In a recent T20I clash, Fakhar Zaman distinguished himself by setting a new record for the most catches taken by a Pakistani player in T20Is, overtaking Babar Azam’s previous mark.

During the second T20I against Bangladesh, the 35-year-old fielder secured the record by executing a remarkable catch while running backwards, dismissing Tanzim Hasan Sakib off Salman Mirza’s delivery.

This impressive catch elevated him beyond Babar, who had previously held the top spot among Pakistani fielders for the highest number of catches in the format.

T20I Catches Record for Pakistan:
  • Fakhar Zaman – 53 catches in 95 matches
  • Babar Azam – 52 catches in 128 matches
  • Shoaib Malik – 50 catches in 123 matches
  • Shadab Khan – 40 catches in 112 matches

Notably, Fakhar achieved his tally of 53 T20I catches in 95 matches, which is 33 fewer matches than Babar.

Experienced all-rounder Shoaib Malik holds the third position on this list with 50 catches from 123 matches, closely followed by fellow all-rounder Shadab Khan, who has 40 catches.

However, Fakhar Zaman’s batting performance was less remarkable, as he scored only eight runs off as many balls during Pakistan’s chase of 134 runs.

His dismissal contributed to a significant batting collapse for Pakistan, leaving the team struggling at 32/6 in 10 overs at the time of reporting.

The team required an additional 102 runs from 60 balls, with Faheem Ashraf and Khushdil Shah at the crease.

Earlier in the match, Bangladesh managed to score 133 before being bowled out in 20 overs.

Jaker Ali, the wicketkeeper-batsman, was the standout performer for the home side, scoring a brave 55 off 48 deliveries, including one four and five sixes.
