Asia Cup Clash: India vs. Pakistan on September 14

The Asia Cup is set to feature a showdown between Pakistan and India on September 14.

Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh voiced his opinion on Wednesday, urging the Indian team to abstain from playing against Pakistan in the forthcoming Asia Cup, due to current tensions.

Speaking to local media outlets, Singh emphasized that the nation’s concerns should override any sporting event.

“To me, the soldier safeguarding our borders, whose family may rarely see him, and who may give the ultimate sacrifice, his sacrifice is unparalleled. In comparison, missing a cricket match is insignificant. This is a minor issue,” Singh stated.

He stated that the Indian government’s stance remains, “Hostility and collaboration are incompatible. We cannot have conflict at the border, strained relations, and still engage in cricket.”

“Until these critical matters see resolution, cricket holds little weight. The country’s welfare is paramount,” he added.

The 45-year-old also took aim at local media for broadcasting Pakistani players and their comments.

“If a boycott is in place, and communication is cut off, why give them visibility? The media should avoid stirring the pot. Cricketers should refrain from shaking hands with Pakistani players, and the media should not amplify their reactions,” he concluded.

Notably, the Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to commence on September 9 with a Group B match featuring Afghanistan and Hong Kong.

Eight teams, split into two groups, will compete for the coveted title. Rivals Pakistan and India are in Group A, together with UAE and Oman, whereas Group B consists of Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Hong Kong.

Pakistan’s opening match is against Oman on September 12, preceding the high-stakes game against India on September 14. Their concluding group-stage match against the UAE is slated for September 17.
