PSG Embarks on Ligue 1 Title Pursuit After Super Cup Triumph

Paris St Germain’s coach, Luis Enrique, has expressed his satisfaction with the progress demonstrated by his squad following a week of training after concluding the Club World Cup as runners-up. He believes they have the potential to secure another Champions League title.

Following a limited number of training sessions, PSG secured victory against Tottenham Hotspur in a penalty shootout to claim the UEFA Super Cup. Enrique commended his team’s resilience as they commence their bid for a fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title.

“I appreciate the fighting spirit displayed by the team in the European Super Cup, especially with minimal preparation. This tenacity has been a defining characteristic of the team in recent seasons,” he stated to reporters ahead of their league opener against Nantes.

“Our current objective is to regain our touch on the ball. It’s understandable that we are not yet operating at full capacity.”

Enrique, who has previously secured back-to-back league titles with PSG, also guided Barcelona to two consecutive LaLiga titles but was unable to achieve a third.

The 55-year-old acknowledged that the start of the Ligue 1 campaign would present challenges, but he remains optimistic about securing a win against Nantes, who concluded the previous season in 13th place.

“I’ve observed improvements in just one week. We understand the difficulty players face when playing away from home against any opponent. We anticipate challenges in Nantes, and it will be a closely contested match,” he added.

When asked about PSG’s overarching objective for the season, the Spaniard conveyed his aspiration to once again triumph in the Champions League, following their dominant 5-0 victory over Inter Milan in the previous final.

“The overarching sentiment is one of continuing to make history, which has been the primary aim from the outset. It’s a unique opportunity because it’s rare to see a team win the Champions League twice in succession,” he remarked.

“That is our ambition, and we are very determined. We recognize the difficulty of this undertaking, but it’s natural to have this mentality. It depends on us and our performance level. I believe it’s a very exciting goal.”
