England Announces Squads for West Indies White-Ball Series
The English men’s cricket team has revealed its squads for the forthcoming white-ball series against the West Indies, which is slated to commence on May 29.
The series will feature three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), with Harry Brook taking on the role of captain.
Notably, Liam Livingstone has been left out of both the ODI and T20I squads.
Livingstone previously captained England during an ODI series against the West Indies last year, standing in for Jos Buttler, but was not selected for this series.
Conversely, all-rounder Liam Dawson has been recalled to the England setup after nearly three years. However, Dawson will only participate in the T20I matches.
Phil Salt has been omitted from the ODI squad after struggling to replicate his explosive T20 batting in the 50-over format.
England has opted to maintain consistency in the 50-over side, avoiding a complete reshuffle.
Joe Root remains a key member of the squad as a senior batter, while Adil Rashid continues in his role as the primary legspinner for England, despite his age.
Rehan Ahmed, viewed as his potential successor, has been included in the T20I squad.
The first ODI is scheduled for May 29, with subsequent matches on June 1 and June 3.
This series is England’s first white-ball commitment of the season and arrives amid a potential conflict of interest for Jos Buttler.
Buttler’s Gujarat Titans are currently at the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) standings and are favored to advance to the knockout stages.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has voiced its support for the IPL and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), stating, “We are eager to support the IPL and the BCCI in ensuring the schedule proceeds smoothly and to facilitate the return of players should they choose to do so.”
The ECB also indicated that No Objection Certificates (NOCs) were initially issued based on the original IPL dates and that any possible extensions would be reviewed, especially if they coincide with the white-ball squad’s schedule.
The board will maintain close communication with the BCCI and the IPL as the situation progresses.
“No Objection Certificates were issued based on the initial IPL dates, and we will need to reassess any potential extensions, particularly concerning conflicts with the final white-ball squad,” the statement added.
“We will continue to collaborate closely with the BCCI and the IPL as the situation evolves.”
